Upcoming Events: "A Thirst for the Sea" – March 8th – 4:00 to 7:30
Beaufort Wine & Food, in partnership with Carteret Catch and the North Carolina Maritime
Museum, is so proud to present “A Thirst for the Sea”. Join us as we celebrate
North Carolina’s coastal, agricultural, and culinary heritages! Tickets are extremely
limited, so we recommend that you reserve your tickets as early as possible. Proceeds from
this event will be directed to Carteret Catch and the North Carolina Maritime Museum.
Attendees will be treated to a sumptuous selection of seafood, courtesy of
Carteret Catch. Carteret Catch’s bounty of the sea, NC Heritage pork and seasonal,
locally harvested produce will be expertly prepared by local chef Tony Garnett of
the Coral Bay Club and guest chef Amy Tornquist of Watts Grocery in Durham, NC.
Chef Tony Garnett, the 2013 Beaufort Wine &
Food Chef’s Challenge victor, and Chef Amy Tornquist, nationally recognized for her updated
approach to Southern cuisine as well as her dedication to local and seasonal offerings,
will merge their styles in order to prepare a memorable meal for the fortunate attendees.
Attendees will be able to tour a shrimp trawler docked at the Watercraft Center while
enjoying hors d’oeuvres paired with a selection of Biltmore Estate sparkling wines. Following
the trawler tour and a visit with the captain, attendees will sit and enjoy a four course
meal inside the Watercraft Center. Selected varietals from Foley Family Wines of Healdsburg,
California will be specially paired with each course in order to enhance the dining experience.
While food and drink will be an obvious focus of the evening, there will also be quite a
bit to entertain and educate attendees. Throughout the evening, The Core Sound will provide
lively musical entertainment incorporating blues, jazz, and folk.
The Master of Ceremonies
for the evening will be Bland Simpson - North Carolina legend, cultural historian, member
of the Tony Award-winning Red Clay Ramblers, and Kenan Distinguished Professor of English
and Creative Writing. Mr. Simpson will host the evening and discuss his recent book,
Two Captains from Carolina.
Artist Jack Saylor, Beaufort Wine & Food’s 2014 Featured Artist,
will also add to the cultural flavor of the evening. A North Carolina native and resident
of Morehead City, Jack Saylor will discuss his lifelong passion for the sea and its role in
inspiring his work. A highlight of the evening is sure to be the unveiling of “A Thirst for
the Sea,” Saylor’s signature work for Beaufort Wine & Food 2014.
This is a very special evening not to be missed – and neither are the wines!
